A 54-hour event for hackers, hustlers, and designers.
January 17-19, 2014 @ The Factory
We’re five years old now, and for a weekend so are you.
In celebration of our fifth year of Startup Weekend Grand Rapids, we're remembering what is was like to create when we were younger. Bring back the imagination and curiosity you had as a kid, and use it to build something amazing.
Create like a kid
This year marks the 5th year our chapter has organized a Startup Weekend Grand Rapids. In celebration of that, this year’s event is all about creating like you’re a kid. Startup Weekend is all about being uninhibited, and not being afraid to fail. So this year, we want to encourage that idea more than ever. Be messy, be loose, and don’t worry about the details—create like a kid.
Launch Your Idea
After a weekend of hacking, hustling, and designing, Startup Weekend is all about getting something out there and learning new skills along the way. Whether it is the next big thing or not doesn't really matter, the weekend is about the experience of working together with people you may not ever have before and improving your skill set.
Startup Weekend Grand Rapids is hosted at The Factory. The Factory is a coworking space in downtown Grand Rapids that is home to many entrepreneurs, developers and designers. The open floor plan keeps everyone together in one space throughout the weekend.
Whether entrepreneurs found companies, find a cofounder, meet someone new, or learn a skill far outside their usual 9-to-5, everyone is guaranteed to leave the event better prepared to navigate the chaotic but fun world of startups. If you want to put yourself in the shoes of an entrepreneur, this event is for you. Practice pitching, putting together a business model, create a brand and launch the idea as fast as possible.
Who Should Attend?
Whether you are a seasoned designer or—like a five year old—are looking to try out your skills for the first time, coming to the weekend will give you the chance to get your hands dirty and work on exciting ideas in less than 54 hours. More than devoting a weekend to creating logos and landing pages, as a designer you can influence the business model and entire concept of the user experience around a new idea.
It’s nearly impossible for an idea to come to life without a builder. Developers and engineers are the ones who can take the idea, and bring it life in a functional, real world scenario. Startup Weekend is the hackers chance to work on your own idea, or find a great idea to work with and bring that to life.
Startup Weekend is all about hustlers—finding potential customers, interviewing users, getting out there, talking to as many people as you can. Maybe you have an idea that you want to launch, this is your chance to pitch to your peers and practice tools to validate that idea.
